Eden's crown

This last Sunday, Eden didn't want to get her hair done so I told her I would make a crown. She was excited about that and she kept posing and asking me to take more pictures of her. These are just a few.

Good-bye

It happened at the grocery store today, my two faithful companions just about everyday since the day we met at Ross the day before Easter, must be put to rest. I don't know what to do now, there's no point in meeting new ones, the season is almost over. They were so good to me, but I must now say good-bye, I guess this is my final good-bye to my trusty flip flops, and with that, maybe good-bye to summer! (even if it was 105 degrees today!)

Eyes, ears, mouth and nose

Tucker has been sleeping a lot better most nights, but he still often wakes up once sometime between 3:00 and 6:00 am. That wouldn't be so bad if he would just nurse and go back to sleep, but lately he stays awake and climbs around our bed and us. Sam will wake up to Tucker pulling on his nose and he will grab our ears and mouths and hair as well. Last night I kept finding him just standing straight up in our bed, not holding on to anything. This is something he has been working on, and seeming quite proud of himself in the daytime, but it's a little scary in our bed in the middle of the night when I'm only half conscious and Sam is completely unaware. It is cute to see him so proud of himself though!

Friday Fill Ins

My SIL has been doing these every Fri. and I've always thought it would be fun but never seemed to be blogging on Fridays, but I thought I would give it a try today!

Friday Fill-Ins #87
1. When I'm sick I'm a pain to live with.

2. When I take a walk, I think about what it would be like to live in the houses that I see.

3. Money can't buy happiness but it can enable me to go on more "nice" dates with my husband.

4. Cotton makes me comfortable and leather makes me pay attention.

5. skipped

6. My favorite color these days is never constant because there are so many cool colorsand I like variety.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to hanging out with the kids and maybe swimming, tomorrow my plans include errands and Sunday, I want to go to church and then relax!

Brady's birthday weekend

We can't believe we have a 9 year old now. He is definitely no longer a little kid, but we sure are lucky to have him. He is the most helpful, trustworthy, giving kid you could ask for and he helps keep my life sane. We had fun with his presents this year, even though there wasn't much, we did do the 9 things for 9 days before his birthday. For his 9th day he got a voice warper which was a hit (and annoyance) for the whole weekend plus his real gifts were some pajamas and a pocket knife that he asked for since he now has his whittling badge. He was particularly excited to discover all the things his knife included, like the magnifying glass and the scissors. Also, his siblings all gave him some Pokemon cards to add to his collection. He took twinkies to school and had the party that night. We had Daya and Eli here for most of the week which was a great help, especially with Daya being able to watch the kids while I had events and prepared for the party, plus she loves to decorate! She did it all the night before his birthday.

On Saturday we all went to the Kite festival which was a bit disappointing because there was no wind, which is quite unusual here, but the kids still had fun. We also made it to the ward BBQ at the park and then Sam and I chaperoned the youth dance with some friends in the evening. That was interesting! It did pick up after a while and we danced a bit ourselves. It really makes me miss having some kind of dancing in my life. Sunday we had the family all come for Brady's birthday dinner. He requested ribs and Sam prepared a delicious dinner and we celebrated again with gifts and cake.

I think he had a good birthday weekend, at least I know I had fun!

the Pajama party

So first of all, we had a pajama party for Brady but it was not a sleepover. The kids came in the evening and stayed until 10:00 but it did turn out to be a lot of fun. They started out with pizza and then we had a few games which included a treasure hunt and the candy bar game as seen in the next two pictures, I had trouble getting some of the pictures to load so I've just got the ones here of Kolby and Eli's turn at the game. The had to put on the hat, scarf, tie, and two socks on their hands and then try and open and eat a king size chocolate bar with a fork. Kolby ended up with the most chocolate on this game but the kids all seemed to have fun. After the games and cake and presents, the kids settled down to watch some Mr. Bean shows which had them laughing hysterically. The party definitely seemed to be a success. and if this finally posts after the 10th try I will call this post a success, finally!

Tuesday Tell All

I've been trying to post about Brady's party for two days and I can't get the pictures to load for some reason but I wanted to try this blog out and wouldn't you know it, this pictures loaded up easily, I guess it's meant to be!

This week, for posterity's sake, share with us a school memory from your own childhood.
What is your earliest memory of school, what did you love about the first week of school, who was your favorite teacher, subject, or playground game?

I remember going to Kindergarten in Springville, Utah but I don't actually even remember the first day of school. I do remember that there was a teeter-totter and we had these blow-up alphabet characters for each letter that we worked on. I think a few of us got in trouble one time because a girl brought some rouge from home and we all put it on our faces, but that's about it for Kindergarten. I always loved school so I liked all my teachers and I especially remember second grade because I worked hard to get the bonus words in spelling and could then earn free books like Ameila Badelia. There was also a time that I realized in the middle of the night (at least to me it was the middle of the night, maybe it was 11:00) and woke up to finish my spelling homework because I did not want to miss it. We told the teacher about that in my parent/teacher conference and she told someone else in their conference and I got teased about it for a long time. That was also the year that the teachers had piles of textbooks and teacher books that they let us take and my sister and I spent hours using to play school. It's funny to think about what I was doing at the same ages my kids are now and now that I'm thinking about it I could probably go on for hours with school memories, I must be getting old, but I will end it here!

Invitations

I don't really consider myself to be a crafty person, but I was pretty proud of the way these invitations turned out for Brady's birthday party, even though you can't necessarily tell that they are supposed to be pajama pants!

Self-imposed time-outs

Not that she doesn't have her own share of time-outs, but like this time, she often puts herself there. I just had to get a picture this time!

Getting Around

He really is figuring out how to get around these days. Luckily he can't figure out the stairs yet, this is him the other day when he managed to put his toy on the second step and he tried every which way to figure out how to get it, he even figured out how to get one leg up but he didn't know how to get the second one up and eventually gave up and moved on to something else. The day that Kendra was here the little girls brought down all these toys including the pink baby stroller. Tucker had been crawling around after them and then a few minutes later, this is how I found him, he crawled into it and got stuck.

End of summer

Even though summer is not really over, it is, because of school. Here are some of the last lazy days of summer pictures of the kids! Eden hasn't started joy school yet, but she knows it is coming. The funny time was the day we were going to look at the teacher lists I told her we were getting ready to go to the school and she said "me too? I big enough now?!"

ribbons and curls

Obviously I'm excited about Eden's hair again. This was last Sunday, but I don't think you can really tell from the pictures what it looked like but she was not very cooperative for the pictures. Also, she is wearing the dress that Jessica (and Daya had one) had on at our wedding!

Berkley Adventure Center

I've been meaning to upload the images that the Larson's sent us from the Adventure Center but I seem to never get to it so I'll post the few that we took but take a look at the link to see a whole lot of much better ones: http://s275.photobucket.com/albums/jj288/jacobandjodi/Farley%20family/?albumview=slideshow

what can I say, I'm a detail person, no matter how boring

I've been trying to remember what I've been so busy with the last few weeks and I can't even remember so I figured I'll bore you all and pull out the calender and list it, so if you don't like that kind of thing stop reading now!!! Now for you list-makers like me, here goes:

Mon. Aug. 11 I watched my friends kids in the morning and that night I went to a meeting with her because she is in charge of the school carnival (I made sure everyone realized that I was only interested in helping but I did not want to be in charge of anything!)
Tues. park day in the morning and then my kids went to my friend's house while I ran some errands and then off to mutual with all my scrapbooking stuff
Wed. Tucker had a dr. appointment in the morning and then Kendra was in town and came to visit for the afternoon and then we headed over to Central Park for the kids to play in the evening until the water fountains turned off (it was very fun to see Kendra and nice that our kids still play so well together and to get to see her new baby)
Thurs. Kolby had a dentist appointment and then we had another friend's three kid's over
Fri. Ward Park Day and then we headed over to the school early to play on the playground until the class lists were posted and then we headed to an Olympic party with some friends, and then Sam took the kids home and I headed to a girls night for a friend that had moved away but was visiting for a week (that was a really long, but fun day, it so nice to get to chat with so many different people all in one day)
Sat. Sam went to interpret at the big regional Young Men's Son's of Liberty Conference and I had a visiting teaching interview and Eden had a birthday party to go to (she has been quite the party-goer this year!) and we actually had our evening free
Sun. We had the missionaries over for dinner and then Laura and Jessica arrived for the next few days
Mon. We all headed over to the outlets and then I took the boys and Jessica to a Mother's club pool party. The best part was that Sam and I got to go on a date that evening without any kids, it's always nice to get that chance when Laura comes around! We had a long dinner at Baja Fresh and then stopped at Target to get some things for Brady's birthday
Tues. Mother's Club Park Day again and then more swimming with everyone this time and then mutual was a nice dinner with the patriarch
Wed. We said good-bye to Laura and Jessica (after some fun with the Wii Fit) and the boys started school. That evening I went to the Mom's night out.
Thurs. I did some Visiting Teaching and then did a lot of hanging around with people that day, now that I think about it, both at their houses and mine, and then I had a Joy school meeting that evening
Fri. Park day and then some swimming in the afternoon (we are so grateful to our friend with the pool that lets us swim so much!) and then I went to craft night with a friend while Sam watched her kids.
Sat. Now we are to today and I actually haven't had anything all day long, we do have a BBQ and a wedding reception tonight, but that is it so hopefully we can slow down and relax. I know that most of the busy-ness is my own choice, but it is fun as long as it only comes in spurts and since I know that Sam starts interpreting again next week, I had to get it all out of my system. I guess that's enough of the boring details of my life, I'll post some pictures on separate posts, too.

Oh and the good news is that during those two weeks, Tucker finally got the hang of sleeping, we could put him down without any crying from him, even for naps and last night for the first time, he slept all the way through the night without needing to nurse, all the way from 7:30pm to 6:3am!

I'm back!!!

I really wasn't gone but the boys started school today and for some reason the last little while has been crazy busy! It will still continue through the rest of this week but after that I think I will have more time with the boys being gone at school, I know that is never really true, but I like to let myself think that! Anyway, I'll try to get some posts up soon of some of the things that have been going on but I'm sure I'll forget half of what I mean to post. Last night Sis. C, whose children are grown, was telling me how she felt like she was losing her memory when she had her last child and her doctor told her that it was sleep deprivation, so that is what I will claim for now, I am definitely deprived in that department!

Cat naps

Tucker is not a good napper, lately I've resorted to getting him to sleep in anyway I can, sometimes I have to lay on the floor and nurse him because I can't lay on the bed or he will crawl off and fall on the floor when he wakes up. He often only sleeps for 15 or 20 minutes at a time and I end up putting him right where I am to not have to not risk waking him when I move him too much like this time he slept in the recliner.

Gettin' the job done

I just have to write about what great boys I have. I don't post about them often, but I want to be able to look back at this 8 years from now and remember how helpful they are. These pictures are when they were preparing the salad for dinner one night, they are really into it right now and each one takes their favorite part to work on. It's more than just the salad, every morning for the past few weeks, I have come downstairs and Brady and Jordan have already done their chores and Brady will especially do just about everything we ask. They realize they have more chores than most of their friends but they still get to it and do a pretty good job and are also so helpful with Eden and Tucker. Of course it's not always so easy, but in general I am really proud of them and I just had to post about it.

Raingutter regatta

Sunday, August 3, 2008

Sunday is my special day

Sam got up early this morning and when he heard Tucker awake he came and got him so I was able to take my time and get ready this morning. When I came downstairs, I discovered that he had already made Eden's lunch for church and I noticed the ingredients for favorite dinner (stuffed shells) out on the counter. I had to ask "Is this my special day?" He said no, but it sure felt like it. He was even ready for church early and in the car waiting for me because he knows I like to get there early. Isn't he great?!! Even if it wasn't meant to be a special day, it was.
I also like to try fun things with Eden's hair on Sundays, because I can, today's hair is not the neatest but I did think it was fun. Her hair is so wispy that their were fly-aways right away plus I can never get straight parts, but I still enjoy how it turns out. While I'm on the subject of Eden, today on the way home from church she was asking Sam for something and he wasn't answering so she said, "Daddy, Eden wants some, me Eden...not Aiden...it's Eden" That comes from the fact that all the other little kids can't get her name right, they call her Eden and she has recently started correcting them, but this time Sam hadn't said anything at all, anyway, it was funny to us!!!

I also realize that I have not been blogging much because I didn't think much has been going on, but when I looked at the camera and started thinking back on the week we did have quite a few things happening. I intend to have posts about some of the things that I have pictures of but I also like to make lists so here are a few of the things that come to mind:

  • Last weekend Sam took all of the kids to Sac. (except Tucker) and I stayed home and mostly organized/cleaned. I did go to a craft night that I've been meaning to get to for months and had some fun there and got to visit with a lot of people that I really enjoy and afterwords I went to my friend's house and helped her cut towels that she would be using for a Super Saturday Enrichment the next day. On my day of cleaning Tucker wasn't super cooperative but I still managed to get a lot done and then I treated myself to Rubios. I actually stayed up until 3:00am because I could accomplish so much more after Tucker was asleep and I still needed to prepare my lesson for the next day. Sam decided to go to his parents ward so I even ended up going to church with just Tucker. That was strange, but I am thankful I got to have a weekend to get in gear, I think I could use that every few months.

  • Brady had the raingutter regatta at cub scouts. We didn't realize it was so soon so they had one night to work on i, but it still seemed to turn out well, at least Brady had fun with it

  • I went to the ward book group Wed. night, we were reading To Kill a Mockingbird but no one had really read it and our numbers were few so we had fun just chatting for a while, I love when I get a chance to talk to really neat people that I don't get as many other chances to talk with them (and without distraction from the kids)

  • This Saturday we went to the Berkley Adventure Center with some friends. Basically, it looks like a big junkyard but it is totally free and the kids go in and paint and hammer and build whatever they want. The kids had a good time, but we'll have to go back sometime when it isn't quite as hot. They did spend sometime building a ladder for one of the forts with Sam and Eden enjoyed painting the side of another one. We also had a nice little picnic just outside where we could look out on the bay. That evening we had those friends and some others over and they brought some yummy cheese fondue.
  • I think I had other points to add to my list here, but my computer went crazy and I had to restart and I've lost the enthusiasm with which I started this post, so this is the end!!
