Random hair happenings

I can't ever really take credit for the hairstyles I do on Eden because most of them come from blogs or other things I've seen although I do try to change things a bit sometimes. This one is straight from a blog somewhere and I love it and it stayed really well!

But then there are some not so great hair moments, lately Eden has been trying to put things in her hair on her own...when my mom was hear Eden got into her expensive cream and some mousse and got it everywhere. We have to keep our eye on her!

Our trophy

We are the proud winners of the funniest costume at our friends' Halloween Party! We did not win best overall because there was a couple that topped us by far. They were the funniest too but since they won overall, I guess we won funniest by default! They dressed up at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. They were wearing disheveled business clothes and carrying cardboard signs that said "will do mortgages for food" and I can't remember the other one. As for our costume, we had a terrible time deciding what to be. It was as hard as choosing names for our children. I gave Sam a long list of ideas and he didn't like any of them and he picked a few that just did not seem fun to me at all. Finally, one night I dreamed that we dressed in these costumes and I told myself that when I woke up I would have to remember to tell Sam, but when I woke up I could not remember it for the life of me. About a day later I remembered and Sam thought it was perfect so we got to work.

Sam decorated this bag with sharpies and white out and we attached an orange ribbon with safety pins to make a strap.

We made the vest with an old white button-up shirt of Sam's. My mom and I took off the sleeves and Sam made extra pockets with the sleeves. We also added Brady's day camp patch and Sam made a big watch out of cardboard.
I found the Dora backpack on Clearance and Eden claimed it as hers but let me use it. My mom and I also searched everywhere for yellow socks to no avail. Finally, when I was getting ready I was looking in Tucker's sock basket for red ones for the monkey and saw a pair of yellow ones that would be too big for him. I cut the toes off and pulled them up over my socks.

When Eden saw us she laughed hysterically that her mom and dad were also her favorite characters, Diego and Dora!

Costume parade

I didn't ever end up feeling that well yesterday so I never posted and now I have so much to do from being sick for two days, but I wanted to at least post a few things that don't take much description and I'll do the rest when I get a chance.

These are the costumes the kids were wearing at the Mother's club parade and carnival.
I'm especially excited about the way Kolby and Jordan turned out (and they were a hit at the parade!)

Eden changed her mind so many times, first she said she wanted to be a caterpillar but that costume was still too big, then she wanted to be pooh bear, then a sheep, then a goat which I eventually realized was actually a ghost, then a princess until finally she decided on this dinosaur and stuck with it. We couldn't find the head piece but it was still cute.

Visitors

It was a lot of fun to have my mom here for a few days and then my sister and Jessica. We spent a lot of time shopping and also getting costumes ready. I actually got the boys overalls from freecycle and then my mom helped me to figure out how to do the buttons and hats.

We were also able to celebrate Kolby's birthday one more time and he was able to use his art stuff.

Laura and Jessica helped the boys do their pumpkins for the pumpkin carving contest at the ward chili cook-off.

And this really the only time I took pictures so sorry for the randomness, but it did work out well to have them there with everything going on and then me getting sick, we are very grateful for all their help!

I'm still here

I have so much to tell and post about but things have been busy with my mom and then sister and her daughter here and then I got a breast infection yesterday and that's not even the half of it. I have other news to tell and costume pictures to post. Hopefully I feel a little better as the day goes on and I'll start posting things, I just wanted to let you know I'm still here!

Kolby's celebrations

Kolby started out his birthday morning with a few gifts from his siblings.

At the end of one of our long walks while Sam was home, we walked to the school and join in his school celebration. He brought Twinkies to share and his class sang to him while he stood on the table and then they all swarmed Tucker who didn't seem to mind.

After school the next day, Kolby and went to a "Color Me Mine" pottery studio to redeem one of his presents. He picked a dragon to paint and I painted a little dish and we had fun spending time together. That night we had a little family party with pizza, ice cream and a movie (I had a stake meeting on the night of his birthday so we postponed it a night).

On Saturday he had his "Backwards" party. They kids dressed backwards and I even did Eden's hair backwards. They all got nametags with their names backwards and we made backwards signs.

We started the party out with cake and ice cream. They got to eat under the table and eat the cake in a cone and ice cream on a plate.

Then we moved on to presents and then games. We played some "pin the donkey on the tail", some backwards relays and some "goose, goose duck" and a few other backwards things to carry on our theme. The party didn't turn out as well as I hoped, we actually ended up with too much extra time, but I still think the kids had fun and that's what matters.

Bagels

Those of you that know Sam well, know that he loves to try cooking new things. With all the his extra time this last week, he decided to try a lot of things with the bread machine. I came home one day and he told me he was making bagels. I was fascinated because I had never even considered how bagels are actually made!
Look how nice they turned out and they were so yummy!

Walking Around Town

My favorite part of Sam being home was our daily walks. The weather has been beautiful and we were able to take some really long walks to walk Eden to joy school and then stop by the park. Sam walked Eden to the park on the day she didn't have school and they say they really enjoyed the teeter-totter but I'm not sure how that worked! Tucker didn't love being in the stroller for so long on some of the walks so one time Sam put him up on his shoulders and Tucker laughed hysterically. He also had a great time in Central Park. He walked all over the place and then found the spinning thing and loved pushing it around or getting a ride! I kept trying to get a picture of his huge grin but he looked away as it snapped everytime.

Change is in the air

(Sam and Eden summer 2006)

I haven't been blogging much this week for a great reason...Sam was home all week! He has made the leap to leave Randstad and work for another staffing company, Ultimate Staffing. He is really sad to leave Randstad, they have been a great company to work for and he has loved the managers that he has had and the other staff he has worked with but with some upcoming uncertainities, it was the right time to make a move and he is very excited about his new opportunity as well. He gave his two week notice on Monday but they had to have him leave that day because he was going to a competitor but it was great for me because he wasn't starting the new job until this coming week. We had a really nice week and I have a ton of things to post so keep watching for more to come!

Dancing through life

I love to Dance! I have always loved to dance! I would never say I was a top notch dancer, but I think I was a decent dancer. At least I was always able to pick things up and remember them pretty quickly and I've had experience with a wide variety of dances. When we talked about a dance activity for the youth I was very excited to be involved. I volunteered to help in anyway I could. Then it came upon me. All of a sudden I felt really awkward and uncoordinated. It was decided that we would do hip-hop which I would not say has been a strong point of mine anyway, but a friend in the ward choreographed it so all I had to do was learn it right? I did feel comfortable learning it but I felt like I looked like a big dork and was suddenly afraid to teach the youth. When the activity finally happened I think I had the hang of it and maybe only looked a little bit weird and I was really only a helper so it ended up being a lot of fun. It seemed like the youth enjoyed it a little bit and they got a really big kick out of seeing their leaders do it. I felt pumped up by the experience and was longing for some more dance experiences. In fact that night, the YW leaders and primary leaders were meeting to learn a Tahitian dance for the ward Luau. I think I went it to it a little to full of myself, after all, I had just done the dance with the youth and the times I had done hula and had usually been told that I did really well so I thought this would be easy. Boy was I wrong! and I thought I looked awkward doing hip-hop, this felt like I was trying to pat my head and rub my belly at the same time. I was definitely brought down a few notches. I don't know if its because I am so rusty or it is that much more difficult but I actually thought about running away!!! Really though, I am going to practice and I am going to get it because I still do love to dance and even if I look like a fool, it is still fun and worth it to me!

6 Years Old

I just love this picture of Kolby that was taken 5 years ago today on his first birthday! He is such a sweet loving kid, very empathetic and caring. He also loves doing anything related to art and at the same time loves to be with his brothers and do all the boy things they are prone to do! Happy Birthday Kolby! We are so happy to have him in our family! (more later about how we celebrated)

Pasta Chef

Thursday afternoon Brady said: "Can I make dinner?" Of course I let him, it was perfect timing because Tucker wasn't feeling well and was just wanting to be held so he made the whole dinner all by himself. He made some bow-tie pasta with spaghetti sauce and some biscuits. Isn't he great?!!! When we were talking about it later he said: "I just did it because I was bored!" so I told him I would be happy to have him bored anytime he wants!

Nature Walk

The two joy school groups met together for a nature walk this week and I had to post this because...look how tiny Eden is!!! I forget how small she is until I see her with other kids her age. She is the youngest, but they are all born the same year as her. She loves joy school and was also very excited to pick out this Halloween outfit and show all her friends!

A Hairy Week

I had fun with Eden's hair again this week. I started out with many little braids on Monday. When we took them out on Tuesday it was wavy of course and I pulled a little bit back like this:

That actually stayed put to Wednesday so I left it and then on Thursday I pulled several ponytails back on top. I only did it to keep her hair out of her face because it was a bit windy that day and she was going to be outside but she thought it was funny and Sam thought she looked like a lion.

I was planning to be at the park today and it was windy again so I was just messing around with ways to pull her hair up without undoing the ponytails that had stayed so well and this is what we came up with purely by accident. Sam asked if I was trying to find a way to use as many rubber bands as possible! She thought this was really funny because the three ponytails in the back ended up sticking straight out and up. We didn't even end up at the park because Sam had a flat tire on his car and we had to go help him take care of that, but we did get lots of looks and comments! (Now I think it's time to wash her hair!)
