Snippets of Kolby

I will talk about Kolby next since I have a picture of him ready to post. Kolby has always been very artistic and we’ve realized that he particularly likes to create. He will build structures and designs out of random art supplies or whatever he happens to have near him. Brady likes to say that if Kolby found a crumb he would use his imagination and turn it into a car or an imaginary world. Lately he has been really interested in creating with food. He loves to cook and this summer every time he has gone to the library he checks out cookbooks. When he gets home he spends hours going through them planning what he would like to cook. These pictures are of a dip he found in a kids cookbook and he really enjoyed putting it together. Surprisingly, he is not into video games as much as his brothers, he enjoys watching his brothers play but doesn’t share the excitement. He does enjoying being outside with Brady and the neighborhood kids but also enjoys playing with Eden and Tucker and of course they love to have their big brother take the lead. He had a problem with his hearing a few months ago, but when that cleared up, he still acts like he can’t hear us to hope to get out of doing things, but once he gets going he is pretty helpful. He has always had a very tender heart for his friends and will usually make them pictures and letters. He loves to spend time with his best friend this last year and misses him when he doesn’t see him as often. He also often gives Sam and I little notes of love or thanks. He really is so sweet that way. He also is the loves having a dog and is constantly sitting with or cuddling with him. We are thankful to have such a sweet, creative, imaginative kid in our family!

Snippets of Tucker

I’ve been wanting to do a little post about each kid to remember the little things about them at this age, so let me start with Tucker. He is at such a cute age in the way he talks, he has begun to speak fairly clearly and to experiment with words. He often starts a sentence or an answer with “Well….” and if you ask him any question he usually answers “because” even if it doesn’t fit sometimes. And then if you ask him to expand on that he just says “because why” as if that should be enough. He also loves to dance and I often look back in the car to see his head bobbing to the music. He has a funny little dance when his clothes are off where he puts his hands on the back of his hips and with his tummy sticking out and shakes his hips and sometimes sings “I naked, I naked” or “shake your booty” as his brother’s so nicely taught him. There was a recent commercial for the movie called “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” and Eden picked up a line where the kid says “You want to see my secret freckle…it’s got a hair in it!“ Tucker had to copy her and started walking around lifting up his shirt and saying it all the time with the intonations from the commercial and then cracking himself up laughing at himself. He follows Eden around constantly copying everything she does and doing almost everything she tells him too unless he is in a mood to pick on her and then he will try and take her down. He still falls asleep on the couch often yet it is impossible to get him to bed at night and then usually he comes into our room in the early hours of the morning carrying his pillow and blanket and he wakes me up to ask if he can sleep in the recliner in our room. This is an improvement because we used to find him in our bed every night. Often when he says “mommy” I say “what-y” and he will say “I not buddy, I Tucker!” He loves Dora, pizza, Mickey, and trains and always points out the choo-choos to us that we see or hear. He wants to be outside whenever his sibling are and will go running out the door if he finds one unlocked or has even gone as far as pushing a stool all the way over and unlocking the door to get out. His favorite time of the week is nursery class at church. If we start singing songs from class, he will say “no my teacher says that” and he won’t let us sing it anymore and if his teacher wasn’t at church that Sunday he tells everyone all week that his teacher is sick. He is a generally happy kid and will not let obstacles stand in his way. He doesn’t mind getting knocked down a few times and will keep at it until he figures it out. It makes me excited and nervous to see this part of his personality as he grows! I feel like there is so much more I wanted to say, maybe I’ll add to this if I remember more, but for now we are so lucky to have our cute little Tucker!

Another year older

For Sam's birthday this year we gathered with a group of friends at a fun little restaurant we discovered recently. We had so much fun laughing at the regulars doing old country Karaoke songs and finally Stephanie and Sam got up and did a song from Grease. Shamay, Stephanie and I got up and asked to do Ice, Ice Baby and the dj didn't even recognize the song or artist and had to have Shamay look it up for him. Shamay busted out some awesome dance moves but I couldn't figure out how to get the video on here so you'll have to ask her to show them to you! There was also the crazy Karaoke guy with the gold teeth who wouldn't leave some of the ladies alone, and got Stacy out on the dance floor for a song. We had a really great time and couldn't believe it when we were leaving and realized that we had been there for three hours! I think Sam would agree that it was a great birthday!

fireworks part 2

On the 4th, our neighbors invited us to come out and watch their fireworks with them and the States joined with us as well. It's fun to have good neighbors and good friends!

Fireworks part 1

I snagged the first three pictures from my friend Stacy's blog and most of the rest are what the kids took when they got a hold of the camera at our city fireworks display. We got to the park a little early and hung out with some friends while we waited. The boys had fun tossing the football around and Eden and Tucker found themselves a new buddy, Stacy's husband Scott! It was also one of the best fireworks displays we've seen, although Tucker held my hands over his ears the whole time. It was a very happy mom moment enjoying the fireworks with the kids, listening to their comments and seeing their excitement. Kolby even said "this is totally worth it!"

Pickin'

We went with friends to pick strawberries a few weeks ago, the kids had fun and we came home with lots of yummy strawberries and a few apricots!
