Still cute

When Eli was here, he and Brady decided to try and recreate the picture from when they were younger. What do you think?

Farley week

We had Deia and Eli with us for a week while Sam's parents went on a cruise and we love having them visit, although they may not want to come back again since Tucker fractured Eli's thumb! Not on purpose of course, he fell on Eli but Sam got to take him to the emergency room and we got see him enjoy all the attention he got for it!They had their first day of school while they were here and they requested pictures like our kids had!

Eden and Tucker loved having them around and Deia was nice enough to let them help her make cookies!

And this is what the boys were doing during that time....actually they all decided they wanted to make a PowerPoint presentation and spent several days working on it!

Go Zebras!

Brady and Eli are getting ready to start flag football soon so Sam took them along to a high school football game that our neighbor plays at a couple of weeks ago. I guess this hat that I got when I was in a parade at Disneyland was a huge hit at the Fighting Zebra's game and of course Brady and Eli had a great time!

You can tell how much he loves taking pictures....this is his annual picture with the Steve Young Jersey a few weeks late!

49er fun

Back in June I got Sam some pre-season tickets for a 49er game for his birthday. A couple of weeks ago he headed down there with a couple of friends and it looks like they had a good time!

You're probably thinking that I should have used this for the school post since she looks like a school girl here, but this is actually what she wore to church a couple of weeks ago, the day we had a fun conversation at dinner...
after Eden licked the mashed potato serving spoon and put it back in the bowl, Brady said he wouldn't eat anymore because it was now dirty from her mouth. Jordan said something about her mouth being dirty from kissing gross boys. So Sam said: "NOOO!! Eden wouldn't be kissing yucky boys!!!" and Eden said: "No, I don't kiss yucky boys, I kiss yummy boys!"

I guess we are going to have to watch out for her! Although in her defense, she later said the yummy boys she kisses are Daddy, Brady, Jordan, Kolby and Tucker, so I guess that is pretty sweet of her after all!

Go Cougars!

I am not a parent the believes I should push my kids to go to certain colleges, but in my heart of hearts I do dream of having at least one kid go to BYU Provo like I did. I have not pushed it on any of the kids plus they're a little young for it anyway, but I did mention a couple of weeks ago to Brady that he could potentially go to college with his uncle Eli and cousins Kyren and Casey because they are all in the same grade. So you have to know that I was overjoyed when I heard Brady say to Eli the other day, "hey, do you want to go to BYU together" and Eli said "Yes!!!" very excitedly and now they are planning on it!!! I hope they still feel this way in 7 years, and in the meantime its a great think to work towards, no matter what happens in the end!

Girly Girl

People keep asking me how Eden is liking kindergarten and she loves it just like we knew she would. It's so different having a girl in school than it ever was with the boys. She remembers a lot more details to tell me than the boys ever did and she comes home talking about who her best friends are which seems to change from day to day. I'm glad she is in afternoon kindergarten because Tucker and I still get some time with her in the morning although it is hard to get her to eat lunch at 10:30 in the morning. She likes her teacher and they have just 11 kids in the class so it's nice and small.
These pictures are of her second day of school outfit! She insisted on getting pictures again. If it had been my choice, this would have been her first day outfit but obviously it was not my choice. I didn't actually get to take her shopping for her first day outfit like I had been looking forward to because finances would just not allow it, but I did gather a few outfits from thrift stores and ebay and the first and second day outfits were the only brand new things so I let her pick between the two. It's funny because she is not generally super girly as I've said before, she's not really picky about things like clothes, but she does love "new things" and so she was very excited about having new clothes for school. When Grandma Farley asked her the night before school started, what she was most excited about starting school, she said "wearing my new clothes!" so I guess I will have to call that "girly"!

bowling, uniforms and school for lack of a better title

I know we've had a lot of bowling pictures this summer but that's just because the kids got a free bowling passes at the library this summer that allowed them to bowl 1 game free a day throughout the whole summer! You know me and free stuff, we had to take full advantage of that. Actually, we only made it 6 times and there may have been a limit but we didn't even come close, but 6 is still more than we did in the last 5 years combined so that is a lot for us!
The actual reason for this post is to update on the school situation and this is a great lead in...they are wearing their new school uniforms and we don't have Kolby and Eden with us! Now let me explain...(this maybe wordy, it's just for the people who wanted to know the scoop on the school situation, the rest of you can just end here!)
When we moved back up here we knew we were moving to Lincoln but we didn't know exactly where yet so we couldn't register them in a school but we didn't want to start them in MH when we knew we would be moving a month later. It so happened that I checked with one of the charter schools and it had room for all three of my boys and so we went with it. I had mixed feelings about Montessori, there were a few concepts that concerned me but overall I like the concept and I tend to like charter schools. We started at this one and really liked it. Brady and Jordan had an amazing, loving, teacher and Kolby's teacher seemed to go well with him too.

As the school year went on, I started to hear some negative things about the middle school program that starts with the 5th graders and I was a little concerned for Brady the following year but then learned of another charter school that was supposed to be opening that I was really interested in and could switch Brady and maybe Jordan too, but then the opening was delayed for a year.

At that point, I decided that I would stick with the school we were at for 5th grade and give it a chance on my own, not just listen to others complaining since I did like a lot about the school. Then a few things happened. Several of our friends started leaving for a different charter school. We were sad about that but decided to still stick it out. Then I went to a parent meeting before school started. The meeting for the middle school really left me feeling uncomfortable. I think there were some personality differences but also I have different expectations than it seemed the teachers and even the other parents had. I think it was just not the right fit for our family. I stewed over this for several days because I didn't want to keep switching my kids around so much and I was worried about having two different schools and all that goes with that.

Finally, the night before school started for us, I applied to the other charter school for Brady. Sam and I had decided that we might as well apply. The new school had already been in session for three days so we figured they were probably full and we could have Brady on the waiting list in case my concerns became a true issue. About an hour after I dropped them off at their first day at the first school, I got a call from the other school saying they had not only a spot for Brady, but also for Jordan and Kolby. Now I hadn't planned on switching all of them, I hadn't even talked to them about the option so I was pretty confused about what to do. After talking to Sam about it and some praying I told the school that I would send Brady for sure but I needed to talk to Jordan and I would not be sending Kolby. We decided that it was best to leave Eden and Kolby together at the other school, Kolby has that great teacher that Brady and Jordan had last year. We talked to Jordan and pretty much left it up to him because he also had a good teacher and either option seemed like good choices. He thought about it for a long time and finally decided that evening that he wanted to switch as well.

So the next day they switched and we have been very happy with the new school. I still like the other school for Eden and Tucker but I think the new school has a lot more to offer which is nice as the kids get older. It was a pain to come up with uniforms really fast, especially with the current lack of funding situation we have right now, but they have a loose policy and I had fun scouring the thrift stores. It is also nice to have slightly different schedules. This bowling day, Brady and Jordan had a minimum day that Eden and Kolby did not have so it was fun to spend some time with just them. It is also nice to have just Eden and Kolby after school for a while before they other boys get home. I'm really happy with the choice we made in both situations and I think this is going to be a fun year for everyone!

He may be all boy, but he does have an older sister!

Tucker has been playing with cars a lot, especially the ones from the movie, he carries them around and makes car noises and the usual boy stuff, but this is what I overheard when I took this picture (each in a separate voice created by Tucker):

Car 1&2: "Hello, nice to meet you"
Lightening McQeen 1 & 2 and Mater: "Hello, nice to meet you!'
Car 1&2 pointing to other cars: "you be the mom and you be the dad and you be the baby"
LM and Mater: "OK, hi mom..."
