Korea paints

Most days Eden hurries off to play with her neighbor friend as soon as she finishes her chores.  She didn't quite know what to do with herself when her friend went to Korea for the entire summer!  She was so happy to see her when she came back and loved the paint set that her friend brought back from Korea for her.  She spent a bunch of time over the next couple of days creating her art.  We were sad to find out that her friend is now going to be moving away, it's always so nice to have a good friend right next door!

Movie Night/summer party

With the end of summer in sight, I set up the kids with a point system to finish up the last projects and stay motivated to get their chores and other things done and Eli got to join in.  They also had some fun ways to earn points, like giving hugs and foot rubs, playing outside, reading and learning a new word for the day.  They really got into and earned a ton of points.  I set up our summer party the Saturday before school started and loaded up on treats, some things we had and some new things and they took turns spending their points.  We watched some movies while they enjoyed their treats. I found a couple of cheap church based movies on Amazon. One was Saturdays Warriors that we had fun laughing at the 80's clothes and cheesiness but they still enjoyed it at the same time.

The time Eli was here was also our last two weeks of summer so we wanted to make the most of it.  I set up a point system at home for them to earn points by doing projects, giving hugs, reading and helping others with chores to be used for our end of the summer movie party coming up.  We also finished up our reading for the library program, we got Eli signed up too, and decided to use up as many of the coupons as we could.  The first one we used was bowling.  I guess the time we went was a cosmic bowling hour so now everyone has creepy eyes because of the light!

The long and short of it...

Eden was at the point that a lot of little girls with long hair reach, she didn't want to brush or do anything with her hair.  I was fine with her keeping it long, but I did suggest that if she didn't want to take care of it, she could get it cut. She always refused, she was determined to grow it long.  Then I found out that the only reason she wanted it long was because there was a girl in her class last year that told her she wanted to see it long.  She decided that she really did want a haircut but she wanted to wait until after school started so that she could show that girl her hair, I told her we could wait a while but she said that she wanted it done the first weekend.  Then we went to check the class lists when they were posted the Friday before school started and she saw that the girl was not in her class and she said "let's go get my haircut now!"  She is a nut, but a cute nut!

Random Eli time

When the boys heard that Eli was going to be in Arizona for a month, they wondered when they would get some Eli time.  They used to spend a lot of the summer with him and many weekends when we lived close by so I think they have had some Eli withdrawals since we moved down here. Then we realized that Sam's parents would be coming back down here 2 weeks after the reunion so it was a perfect time for Eli to stay. Several times over the week we made the comment about how it just feels so normal for him to be here with us, although he is a lot taller now, he is just a half an inch away from Sam and he cane even wear Sam's shoes.  It's funny to see Eli and Brady together with their height difference and realizing that they are just 7 weeks apart!  Of course, the boys spent a lot of time playing games together and on Sunday before church they all played "Play Nine" which we learned at the reunion.  We thought Eli looked like he would fit in as a casino dealer in these pictures!

That night we made saltine toffee, everyone loved it!
The three older boys, Eli and I went to the thrift store one night.  We found this outfit and made Eli try it on.  It's hard to tell, but the jeans are super shiny! Other than the Obama shirt and the shininess of the pants, I thought he could actually pull it off but it was so not him as you can tell from the look on his face in the 2nd picture!  We had a lot of fun with him here, we are glad we were able to work it out and he was able to stay. He was also a big help with Tucker a lot, who usually only wanted Eli to be his helper!

I started a blog with entries from my Grandma's diaries.  Here is the description from the first post and here is the link:
It was a fun surprise to find this package on my porch today. My aunt sent me some of my Grandma Winkler's Diaries.  Even though a lot of her entries don't say much, they also say give us a glimpse of her life. I'm going to start posts here dated back to the date of her entry to hopefully preserve her record for her posterity.

I noticed that the picture above may look like Eli doesn't have any clothes on!!!  Too funny!  The boys and I were planning to have a couple of beach trips during the time that Eli stayed with us and when we heard that some of the Borgia family was sticking around and planning to go to the beach we decided to meet up.  It was nice to hang out for a while and all the boys, including Spencer, had fun going out with the boogie boards.  Tucker, on the other had, has started this new thing where he freaks out about being too close to the waves and when we first get to the beach, screams everytime a wave crashes.  I had a hard time getting him to even stay near me, he kept trying to go way past the playground behind us.  He finally relaxed a little and played with the kids in the sand and it turned out to be a fun beach day relaxing and visiting a little bit with the family.

(These two are about 2 weeks apart!)

San Diego

As part of the Borgia reunion, we spent the day in San Diego.  All of the grown-ups and teenagers did work in the temple but these three were the only ones that aren't old enough to go yet so I stayed out with them while Sam and his dad and two adult cousins went with the youth to do baptisms.  We had fun doing our own little photo session.

Eden wanted to take a picture.... of course Tucker had to take one too!
Then the teenagers finally came out a lot later than we expected!

After the temple, we headed to a Mexican restaurant on old town San Diego.  It was great except for the fact that Sam's backpack and Brady's DS got stolen out of our car!   After dinner we headed to the Mormon Batallion Museum again. As usual, Jordan got to be the one to put on the gear in the demonstration, he does it every time!  Of course, we must have the usual, not so nice family snapshot and the kids always have fun in the little courtyard after the tour!
